Job Summary

LSA Advancement champions the liberal arts at the University of Michigan by creating access and opportunities for learning, engagement, and giving that will improve the world.

Reporting to the Director of External Relations and Annual Giving Programs, the Digital Annual Giving Officer will be responsible for the college’s digital fundraising program. The Digital Annual Giving Officer will help plan the college’s fundraising strategy, and lead and coordinate all digital fundraising efforts including a college-wide one-day giving blitz, crowdfunding campaigns, e-mail solicitations, social media fundraising and stewardship campaigns, and online advertising. The Digital Annual Giving Officer will be tasked with creating a strategic plan for donor acquisition, renewal, retention, and segmentation growth, as well as digital engagement, and then executing the plan to deliver measurable results. He/She should be metrics-driven and flexible. The Digital Annual Giving Officer should also be a messaging expert that can motivate people to action online, as well as someone who can recruit, inspire, and coordinate online and event volunteers.

LSA Advancement needs an experienced fundraiser with a track record of digital fundraising success, who thinks big and out-of-the-box, loves to try new ideas and innovate, and can execute. The ideal candidate can create a vision for our success, and can inspire others to follow.

The target salary range for this position is mid-70’s to low-80’s.


Specific responsibilities include:

Strategic planning

Create a strategic plan for the digital component of the annual giving program, focused on increasing revenue and donor acquisition, renewal, retention and growth of targeted population segments to include young alumni, international alumni, leadership donors, parents, and students. Execute plan, provide reporting, and adjust and adapt as data indicates and college priorities require. Benchmark other universities and non-profits for best practices, and stay on top of trends in digital fundraising.


Lead all digital fundraising efforts for the College. Plan and execute Giving Blueday, the College’s annual day of giving; crowdfunding for the college’s departments, programs, museums, student groups, and priority initiatives; and e-mail solicitations to annual giving prospects and events-goers over the course of the year. Develop online giving strategy for international audiences. Expand leadership annual giving opportunities to underserved regions. Raise money online and on our websites; increase performance through online advertising. Plan and execute an online stewardship program.

Volunteer engagement

Build a digital volunteer engagement program. Recruit, train, direct, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of digital volunteers to assist with promotion, engagement, and fundraising.


Produce reporting to measure and track success of all digital initiatives and to inform strategic decisions to grow the fundraising pipeline at all levels.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must be able to show documented success running a digital fundraising program that generates revenue and donor engagement in the organization’s mission. Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g. MailChimp), online advertising tools (Facebook Business Manager, Google AdWords, etc.), and building active online communities using Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram is required. Experience using analytical tools to measure marketing messages and efforts across digital platforms (Google Analytics, etc.) is also needed. Candidates must have strong interpersonal communication skills; excellent verbal and written skills; ability to effectively communicate and operate in a customer service environment; ability to work independently and as a team member to set priorities and handle multiple assignments and deadlines; excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google; experience with database programs. Must demonstrate strong attention to detail; strong skills in grammar, and experience in business writing. The candidate must have understanding of and ability to compile, present, and interpret statistical data and trends.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate has a minimum of 5-7 years of fundraising experience that includes success building a sustainable, digital fundraising strategy that has produced gifts of all sizes ($1-$25,000) from a diverse group of supporters. A four year degree, preferably from University of Michigan, is also attractive.
