Duties & Responsibilities
The Assistant Director is responsible for raising unrestricted support for the Law School’s $10+ million annual giving program. This position manages development and engagement activities and alumni volunteers for reunion and non-reunion alumni class programs. Manages class gift volunteer committees, develops and implements class-wide fundraising plans, and organizes class meetings. Oversees programs for specific alumni segments, which may include direct mail, young alumni programs, donor stewardship and recognition programs, as well as other related initiatives.
This position has responsibility for making a minimum of 100 alumni visits per year for the purposes of cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and volunteer recruitment. Participates in the development and implementation of unrestricted giving strategies and programs. Compiles financial data for gift tracking and management reports. Coordinates targeted class solicitations with Development Communications staff. Evaluates dollars raised and participation rates in reunion and non-reunion classes serves as the manager of fundraising efforts for those classes. Organizes and attends reunion gift committee meetings, arranges and participates in class leadership conference calls. Works to increase dollars, volunteers and participation in assigned classes, both reunion and non-reunion. Collaborates closely with Alumni Relations and other Development departments and performs other related duties as required.
Must be willing to work nights and weekends to staff reunion events on campus. Must also be available to provide staffing coverage during end of calendar and fiscal year high volume periods.
Bachelor’s degree required. A minimum of 4 years’ experience in university fundraising or related transferable experience.
This position requires a command of basic fundraising principles, a high level of organization, professionalism, and a broad familiarity with the objectives of annual fund raising. Demonstrated ability to develop and leverage relationships and effectively manage volunteers. Excellent written and oral communications skills. Must be able to listen, as well as influence and persuade others. An outgoing and positive personality, strong interpersonal skills, and a collaborative working style are essential. Must be well organized, detail oriented, able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment working effectively as a team member or independently. Must be results-oriented. Ability to supervise and motivate support staff, student employees and alumni volunteer groups. Ability and willingness to travel and occasionally work weekends and evenings is required. Familiarity with fundraising databases and prospect management systems is required. Previous Harvard Development experience is strongly desired.
