Job Summary:

Connecticut College is conducting a national search for a Director of Parent & Family Leadership Giving. Reporting to the Vice President for Advancement, the Director of Parent & Family Leadership Giving is responsible for the direction of a leadership giving and volunteer management program focused on annual and capital gifts (six and seven-figure gifts) from current and past parents. The Director also staffs the Parents Council, the Senior Parent Project and the Annual Parents Fund. In addition to significant programmatic responsibilities, the Director is also responsible for supervising one professional staff member and an administrative support associate. In addition, the Director plays a leadership role in divisional planning/cross-departmental strategic planning, and as a key strategic decision maker on the Advancement team, serving as a member of the Divisions leadership team.

General Duties & Responsibilities:

The Director of Parent & Family Leadership Giving is responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting current and past parent prospects to maximize parent contributions to the College; supervising the Parent Giving staff; managing Senior Parent Project and soliciting parents of seniors to reach set annual goals; manage Annual Parents Fund including oversight of direct mail and telemarketing efforts for the Parents Fund; working in collaboration with the Leadership Giving, Annual Giving and Gift Planning staffs to coordinate all parent giving efforts with other development initiatives. In addition the Director will manage the Parents Council including recruitment of new members, solicitation of leadership gifts, coordination of programming, and stewardship to top annual and capital parent prospects; arrange personal visits, meetings, and solicitation calls with top parent prospects and volunteers; preparing reports, briefings materials, correspondence, proposals, and related documents for solicitation of parent prospects including scheduling visits for the President and volunteers and accompanying them when appropriate; and provide oversight and management of the Senior Parent Project, including the recruitment of Committee members and solicitation of Senior Gift prospects.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred, and a minimum of 7 years of experience in major/leadership gift work preferred. This position requires a professional whose background is characterized by initiative, leadership, creative energy, refined organizational skills, and proven expertise as a program manager and fundraiser. The Director must be a superb communicator — both written and oral — who builds relationships and works well with parent constituents. The Director must appreciate the important traditions of higher education and be able to articulate the mission and needs of the College. He/she must be able to make independent decisions, manage staff and a budget, as well as appropriate fundraising programs and projects, work productively with colleagues and independent-minded volunteers, and inspire confidence among colleagues
