Job Description Summary

The Associate Director for Annual Giving Marketing & Operations will handle all direct mail marketing, reporting and data analysis for annual giving. This will include the use of data analysis to help inform segmentations, messaging and approach. Working closely with the director of annual giving, this position will make recommendations concerning complex data segmentation.

Essential Duties

  • Using strategic data analysis and a results driven approach, make extensive communications, marketing, and goal planning recommendations at the beginning of each fiscal year and throughout the year, as necessary – to include ownership and execution of an annual direct mail marketing plan and a pipeline development plan that supports and empowers Annual Giving directors and other internal stakeholders. Provide monthly reports related to budget and projections.  40%
  • Manage all direct mail planning, oversee design, execution, results reporting and archiving for the direct mail efforts. Provides a series of tests for direct marketing response in order to make sound recommendations. Executes predictive data modeling to ensure cost efficiency for all direct mail projects. 25%
  • Manage all complex data segmentation. Works closely with the Director of Annual Giving to make recommendations surrounding segmentation for direct mail and appeals. Analyze data to identify trends and patterns in Annual Fund history. 15%
  • Direct budget management and oversight on all spending related to direct mail. 10%
  • Provides best practices and innovative ideas for direct response marketing that are on the forefront of annual giving to grown and unlock new donors. 10%
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4 – 6 years related work experience with prior experience in Advancement, preferably at the college or university level.
  • Must be knowledgeable of strategies that will target annual giving prospects, alumni and donors, and will focus on the outreach strategy to acquire, renew/retain, reactivate and upgrade donors as well as stewardship of annual donors.
  • Must have an analytical aptitude and comfortable facility with computer systems
  • Must have experience managing agencies and third parties
  • Must be detail oriented. Ability to plan own work schedule, and meet challenging deadlines
  • Thorough knowledge of campaign management including print, data selection, channel management/integration
  • Budget development, management, and reporting experience;
  • Analyzing and interpreting campaign performance;
  • Create successful mass solicitation segmentation strategies and donor journeys
  • Conceptualize effective communications pieces with a strong and compelling call to action and on-brand storytelling and messaging
  • Work closely with colleagues in Advancement Communications on all direct mail pieces
  • Employ strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions and recommendations.
  • Ability to complete projects on time and on budget, and report on status and progress.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Experience working with communications experts and print firms
  • Must hold and maintain a valid, unrestricted United States driver’s license, with an insurable driving history as determined by Bentley’s insurance carrier.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher education development experience or non-profit related experience
  • Background in marketing
  • Demonstrated technical literacy with iModules and ability learning, mastering, and communicating about system functionalities with volunteer organization leaders and improving processes for training and support.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new systems and ability to manipulate and analyze data to inform department decision-making.
  • Experience managing programs independently, making process improvements, and reimagining volunteer training programs and opportunities.
  • Collaborative and collegial approach to working with teams; ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Work Environment

  • Typical office setting with extensive sitting and computer work
  • May require occasional nights and/or weekend work
